Just a short distance from central Osaka, Maishima Seaside Park transforms every spring into a breathtaking sea of soft blue flowers. While the city is often associated with food, nightlife, and urban energy, this peaceful coastal spot offers a completely different experience, one that feels almost out of this world.
I visited Maishima Seaside Park for the first time last week, and it completely lived up to my expectations. The fields of nemophila were absolutely stunning, creating a soft blue landscape that seemed to blend into the sky. Getting there however was a bit more complicated than expected and requires some preparation but once I arrived, it was more than worth the effort.

A Sea of Nemophila
Nemophila, often nicknamed “baby blue eyes”, are small, delicate flowers known for their pale blue petals and white centers. On their own, they’re subtle, but when thousands bloom together, they create a mesmerizing carpet of blue.
At Maishima, these flowers stretch across wide open fields, giving the illusion that the sky has melted into the ground. It offers an absolutely beautiful view that will move you without any doubt.

When to Visit
The best time to enjoy the nemophila at Maishima is mid-April to early May, with the peak bloom being at the end of April. During this period, the park often hosts a seasonal event with food stalls and photo spots, making it an ideal spring outing.
Be aware that the park can get crowded during weekends, especially during peak blooming. Weekday mornings are the best if you want to avoid crowds and enjoy a quieter atmosphere.
Access & Tips
Reaching Maishima can take a bit of planning as it is outside of the city center and there are not many ways to go.
When I went to Maishima Seaside Park, I ended up taking a regular bus, which was convenient because it was close to the city center but definitely not the quickest option. Because I went during the peak and a Saturday afternoon, the traffic was terrible and we ended up taking a really long time to reach the park.
The Park has shuttle buses which are faster and depart from Sakurajima Station straight to the park. This is definitely the best and quickest option to reach the place. It can get a bit crowded as well though but they are running pretty often.
The shuttle bus costs 300 yen and the entrance to the park costs 1800 yen per person but you can often find discounted tickets to enter for 1500 yen.

A Spring Gem in Osaka
While cherry blossoms get most of the attention, the nemophila fields at Maishima Seaside Park offer a completely different kind of spring beauty. Less crowded, more unique, and incredibly photogenic, it’s a perfect addition to any Osaka itinerary, especially if you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path.
